Coloured natural lime (NHL 3.5) for pointing

RC ASTIVO is a hydraulically coloured (NHL 3.5) lime for the preparation of a grouting mortar according to ENV 459-1. Lime mortars for lime joints are generally softer and more porous compared to mixtures containing cement, allowing moisture to evaporate more freely from the joints. This can help to reduce the moisture content in the wall and reduce the build-up of soluble salts in the stone surface, reducing potential damage or 'crumbling' of the masonry. Lime grouting of traditional masonry with lime putty or natural hydraulic lime (NHL) based mortar offers many advantages over cementitious mortars.

Elasticity/deformability

RC ASTIVO is much more elastic and deformable compared to a hybrid or cement mortar. This is an essential factor, as it minimizes shrinkage and tears and allows small movements to be absorbed.

Permeability and insulation

RC ASTIVO gives the building an excellent vapor permeability, which prevents the formation of condensation moisture, mold and damp spots. Moreover, the insulation value improves, in other words healthier living.

Mechanical strength

The mechanical characteristics are built up progressively: NHL 3.5 lime reacts with water and then hardens under the influence of the air (carbonation). Soil consolidations in the building are absorbed better. Due to the free lime that carbonizes over a long time, a mortar also has a self-healing property.
